St Vitus and Orange Goblin at the Islington Academy

Posted in Uncategorized on February 4, 2010 by juliojuliojulio

I went to see St  Vitus and Orange Goblin at the Islington Academy yesterday. A lot of people were hating on it before we even got there due to the fact that Wino was singing rather than than Scott Reagers…

Anyway, I though Wino was great but really, the show was only ok. Some of it was bloody ace as some songs kick ass… but some of it was boring. I mean, I know its blasphemy but some of their riffs are pretty generic really. There – I said it!

New band

Posted in Uncategorized on February 1, 2010 by juliojuliojulio

Steve and I have started a band together. I haven’t played in a band for a while now so I’ve been itching to get playing again for ages now. So far, we’ve drunk a hell of a lot of red wine and pulled stupid faces a lot. Here we are acting like a pair of nobs as usual:

We’ve also actually started writing some songs and they’re sounding good and doomy. At the moment Steve and I are both playing bass and guitar and swopping around. I’m also doing vocals which is ace when you distort them and rather embarrassing when you don’t……

Steve’s missus plays violin in Chrome Hoof and she came over last time we played and recorded some strings which  was a nice addition. Next up, we need someone in to record some drums as the limited fills etc that I can manage would sound RUBBISH! And maybe we need a name too. Hmm.

Hell yeah x Les Ettes

Posted in Uncategorized on January 31, 2010 by juliojuliojulio

Carmela from Les Ettes and I have been having sneaky meetings over the last six months. Here we are in Paris having a coffee and discussing our secret project.

Me and Carmela from Les Ettes

Finally, our little scheme is set be unveiled at ISPO in Munich. I’ll be travelling over to Germany next Sunday and staying for a couple of days at the trade show. There’s a Les Ettes party on the Sunday evening so make sure you’re there for that and come look at the Les Ettes stand to see what we’ve been up to!

More documentary filming

Posted in Uncategorized on January 30, 2010 by juliojuliojulio

Everyone’s been filming for the fixed gear documentary this week and today everyone went to Wandsworth roundabout for a session. I was really late and the film crew had left but still managed to see Ted and his brother Tom riding well and hitting up this wallride.

With the amount of time, effort and money they’ve put into this film, plus all the great riders involved I reckon this film is gonna be great.

Black Metal – the musical

Posted in Uncategorized on January 28, 2010 by juliojuliojulio

Former Gorgoroth frontman, Gaahl, is set to appear in the first ever (unsuprisingly) black metal musical. Called Svartediket, it’s gonna be shown at Norway’s Festspillene festival in Bergen in May. Damn, I wanna go!

Reminds me of when I travelled all the way to Stockholm a few years back to watch Entombed play with the Swedish National Ballet. It was super surreal but utterly amazing!

Fixed gear documentary

Posted in Uncategorized on January 26, 2010 by juliojuliojulio

When we went to Frankfurt, Obi and Andy from Inspired Flight came along to film us. We rewarded them by drinking lots of beer and not riding very much! Mainly coz of the snow rather than inherent laziness, I swear!

Anyway, Obi and Andy and a rather large production team are currently making a proper documentary about fixed gear bikes. Its an excellent set up with high production values and whatnot and when I saw a quick edit the other day I was super impressed. Along with interviews and footage of tricks and the like, they’ll be including other kinds of riding, frame building and other interesting bits and pieces.

Above is a picture of the set up the other day so you can see what I mean. There’s a goddam lighting rig! Anyway, let me tell you, it actually wound up being pretty stressful yesterday – you see that spotlight? I had to do tricks on that spotlight in front of a dozen people and about four very expensive cameras. To say I got performance anxiety is an understatement! I couldn’t bloody do anything! I was trying this stupid keo as they were filming in mega slow mo and I fucked it up so many times. It was really frustrating. I didn’t realise how hard I find doing that kind of thing but I think it reminded me of when I was snowboarding and I hated competitions because I’d go to pieces!

Shit is proper yo! Told ya:

I’m much happier to just mess about with my friends and a beat up camcorder but Obi and Andy are awesome and it looks like this film is gonna be ace. So thank you guys for including me. I’m sorry I’m such a baby!

Charge shaker hubs and grater cogs

Posted in Uncategorized on January 22, 2010 by juliojuliojulio

I’ve been riding a prototype of the Charge shaker hub for a while now and it’s been working out well. Charge have just released the hubs in new colour ways so you can match of mismatch your components as you see fit. Sweet. Check em out here

I Heart metal

Posted in Uncategorized on January 22, 2010 by juliojuliojulio

The I Heart party last night was great. Thanks to all the bands and everyone who helped us out. Gustav – you’re a BBQ master! And Tim and Bliss, you guys rule of course.

Whilst I was DJing and chatting with Tim we decided that we must start a non ironic East London metal night. So thats the next mission. Stay tuned for details! Sanna and Nina will be top of my list of DJs for sure!
