Alabaster Suns at the Crobar

Posted in Uncategorized on June 30, 2009 by juliojuliojulio

l_30b1e07332454f45ab84dafda1bce8cfI used to love Capricorns but sadly they are no more. But Kevin and Nathan have a new band now called Alabaster Suns who are just as ace and have their debut album out on Iron Pig. They’re playing a free show tomorrow at everyone’s favourite rock hangout, Crobar, so get down there and check out how

”The band’s complex time signatures, and atypical riffs create a true sound all their own though, as they seamlessly blend staggeringly heavy freight-train bludgeon with more mellow breakdowns”.

I managed to snap this pic of Nathan’s tattoo at Hellfest after he passed out and I’m sure he would love me to post it here.. ..hehehe!  but seeing as the one I did recently is a tribute to him and Hellfest, I might just get away with it.

Anyway, I got myself a new screensaver this morning browsing the blogosphere…. came across this pic by Matt Lingo at the Shop 14 blog and it made me smile.

Skid comp/neil young/lock in/first tattoo

Posted in Uncategorized on June 29, 2009 by juliojuliojulio

Oooh, had so much fun this weekend.

Started off in Haggerston Park for the skid comp and a few beers. I sucked at the skid comp- my first try I went for it getting my hips forward over the bars but failed to lock my legs and didn’t even skid. My second try I rode like a pussy at about two miles an hour and produced a measly three metre skid or something. I was shit at the trackstand comp and rubbish at the footdown too! I was very good at drinking beer though; that’s something in which I excel!

RIMG0087

Massey decided to set his wheel on fire for the flaming skidtles and then couldnt get it out. God knows how his rims and tyres are looking now.

RIMG0094

On Saturday I went to Hyde Park to see Neil Young, the living legend. I wonder if Neil Young wakes up in the morning and thinks, ‘Holy shit, I’m Neil fucking Young!’ It was great to see him; I’m a big fan and I’ve never seen him before but unfortunately it was too quiet really, probably due to sounds restrictions because of where it was. And he didnt play my favourite song, Revolution Blues. Still ace though.

RIMG0100

After that we went rode back east, mucked about and ended up at my new favourite pub, The Stag’s Head for a lock in. The Stag’s Head looks like a proper east end boozer inside and has a great beer garden, free barbecues on a Sunday, regular lock ins and pool for 50p. Can’t go wrong with that.

RIMG0102

And on Sunday I did my first tattoo. The first line was pretty shaky but I was well into by the end… which was about thirty seconds later as it was only tiny. It was really, really fun and I want to do more! I renamed the saint.

Attack Of The 50 Fixed Women

Posted in Uncategorized on June 26, 2009 by juliojuliojulio

This Sunday there will be a ladies only ride from Buckingham Palace to Richmond Park and finishing off at the Coach and Horses in Clapham.

attackof50fixedwomen

Although it’s called Attack of the 50 Fixed Women, I’m told that you can actually ride any bike you like. Its a gentle social ride where no one will be left behind and I think there will be a picnic in the park if it’s not raining. If that sounds like your kind of thing then have a look over at the LondonFGSS for more info.

Don’t forget…..

Posted in Uncategorized on June 26, 2009 by juliojuliojulio

God hates Tyres tonight in Haggerston Park. More info over at House Of Pistard but basically its an excuse to stand around drinking cans and mess about on your bike. There’s gonna be a skid comp, flaming skidtles and a trackstand comp I think. Extra points for doing the flaming skidtles in a shell suit and risking a shrink wrapping.

On Tuesday, Shop 14 will be showing Bootleg Sessions v3 and then having a trick comp.. There hasnt been a trick comp in ages and everyone has got really good recently so that should be a good one to watch and take part in. Although I seem to have stalled somewhat and still can’t ride backwards. Bah!

Hellfest 2009

RIMG0007

I went to Hellfest in France over the weekend and had the best time EVER!

All week long I was fannying about sorting out passes and lifts after everything fell through but I was 100% determined I was going to get there and it was more than worth it.

We arrived Thursday night and send about erecting tents slightly hampered by a) the dark, b) the whiskey and c) the fact that we’d never put these particular tents up before. Luckily we picked a spot away from piss alley where our friends had made the mistake of pitching theirs… Sanna and Nina’s tent was slap bang in front of the ‘wild toilets’.

liam, sanna and nina

Eyehategod was the first band we saw and they slayed it! They played all ‘the hits’, if you can call them that and were brutal and heavy as fuck. Holy shit, I love that band more than anything… well they are definitely top three anyway. It was pretty wierd watching them in the blazing sun at 3.30 but I was pretty much sideways by that point anyway. Amazingly I did manage to just about hold it together for the whole weekend which was impressive considering the amount of people that threw up or passed out.

laura

Motley Crue played Friday night and they were absolute dogshit! What a joke! They kept going off for about 5 minutes between songs, probably for an oxygen canister to keep them alive and they’d leave one lame ass on stage to talk to the crowd. Bloody rubbish. They played on the big outdoor stage and for various reasons I thought I was in a tunnel with a massive domed roof and lots of giants. Bizarre.

sanna and jo

We pretty much only saw a couple of bands a day as we like to keep things quite relaxed without too much dashing about…. either that or we were too busy talking shit and drinking beer. It was godamn hot though! On Saturday I made sure to see Amebix as I’d had to give away my tickets to see them at the Underworld as we were traveling to Hellfest. The sound was pretty shit in my opinion… I mean I know Amebix aren’t meant to sound super crsip but nonthenless, it could have been a hell of a lot better. But still, it was the AMEBIX! I have an Amebix tattoo and I’d never seen them before so it was amazing just to finally get to hear them play ‘Arise’.

RIMG0005

Mastodon were amazing… Their sound was absolutely spot on and I love that new album. Laura and I did a bit of crowd surfing too and got mega groped… hehehe!

RIMG0049

On Sunday Steve turned up with a lobster which we ate whilst drinking beer the temperature of bath water. Really need a cool box next time! We missed Coalecse which was a shame but we did manage to see the mighty Electric Wizard who were amazing! Their whole set was good but when they played ‘Satanic Rites of Drugula’ and ‘The Chosen Few’, it was SO heavy and SO good. It was also good seeing Europe play ‘The Final Countdown’. Everyone had been waiting with bated breath the entire set for that song and when it finally started, everyone went nuts!

RIMG0065

To finish off the final day, we saw an extended set from Brutal Truth in the smaller tent. They were so fast and furious but then would have these bits were they would rock out a little more before going back in the mega fast grindcore which worked so well as sometimes full on non stop grind loses me along the way. I don’t have any of their records but I’ve gotta  get some now.RIMG0047

And that was it! Over and no desire for it to be! We got stopped and searched on the way back to Calais which wasn’t so much fun – I’m sure Laura was shaking slightly, but that out the way we sailed back across the channel having had the best time ever. Hellfest Rules! Can’t wait till next year!

Come out and party with us! Posy and I are putting on monthly nights at the Macbeth in Shoreditch and the first one is July 2nd and in conjunction with Vans.
Every month we team up with brands that we love and throw a free party to get all the people we like in one place. Come down and drink and talk shit! The Macbeth has a great roof terrace for the smoker amongst you as well as a pool table… plus we’ll have some great DJ’s playing tunes to dance to.

Kevin accidentally got my name wrong which I found funny and he found embarassing! I think Juliet Lewis is cool; don’t mind sharing her name at all!
